What Is The Iodine Protocol?

Developed by leading physicians Guy Abraham, MD, David Browenstein, MD, and Jorge Flechas, MD, the Iodine Supplementation Protocol includes their pioneering research and generous contributions to the field of Iodine Therapy.

Every day we are exposed to toxic halogens -- fluoride, chlorine, and bromine -- through our water, bread, toothpaste, plastics, swimming pools, and more. These halogens are similar enough to iodine that your thyroid will suck them up and store them in place of iodine, effectively “displacing” iodine in the body.

Dangers of Halogens

Although these halogens look like iodine to the body, it doesn’t mean they can be used for vital functions in the body. When bromine displaces iodine, thyroid hormone becomes brominated.

Exposure to toxins in modern living have caused a markedly increased need for iodine over the years. Lynne Farrow, author of best-selling book the Iodine Crisis, explains the dangers of halogens to breast and ovaries.

According to the Iodine Protocol, iodine doses that range from 6-50 mg per day are recommended for most people.

Iodine Supplementation Protocol with Updated Research

  • 50 mg Iodine daily in the form of Thiodine Lugols 5% or Thiodine Tablets 5% (some people prefer to with 12.5 mg).
  • Thiodine Lugols Tablets is the same formula as Thiodine Lugols Liquid but designed to avoid gastric upset.
  • Vitamin C: in high doses, 3,000 - 10,000 mg per day. Lynne Farrow recommends taking Vitamin C to bowel intolerance.
  • Magnesium 300600 mg day, in the form of magnesium oxide, glycinate or citrate.
  • Selenium 200 mcg a day.  Selenomethionine is preferred.
  • Vitamins B2/B3. 100 mg riboflavin and 500 mg no flush niacin, inositol hexanicotinate form, 1-2x per day. The form of non-flushing B3 is preferred by many patients.
  • 1/4 teaspoon* unprocessed sea salt like Celtic Grey salt added to diet (recommended by patient groups). Consult a doctor on whether this is right for you.

Iodine Boosters

In updating The Iodine Crisis for mid 2019, Lynne Farrow discovered some new information to boost the effectiveness of the original Iodine Protocol. Farrow calls these the Iodine Boosters.
